Competitive classes are offered for those age 6 and up in most styles of dance. These additional classes are for those who would like to take their dancing to the next level. Competition gives students the opportunity to shine, work as a team and perform in front of their peers. All competitive classes are in addition to the one hour recreational class.
FAQ’s about Competition
Why should I be on the competitive Team?: We strive to build confidence, lasting friendships and bring your dancing to another level when on the competitive team. You grow as a dancer and are given an extra opportunity to perform.
Why should I pick your studio to compete with?: You are able to compete but still have time for other hobbies and activities. Competitive classes are half an hour, immediately following your technique class and are dedicated to learning choreography for competitions.
How much does the competitive team cost?: Click here for our price list. Please note that solos and duets are an additional cost and are offered by invitation to the student. The price includes class fees, Showcase (dress rehearsal for competition), entry fees to three competitions, and a studio t-shirt.
Is there an additional costume to compete?: Each competitive piece requires its own costume. Competitive costume prices are capped at $150 plus HST.
How many competitions does the studio compete in?: We go to 3 competitions each year, and all are within reasonable driving distance from Peterborough. In the past we’ve traveled to Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Toronto, Mississauga, and Ajax. We aim to compete in March, April and early May. Depending on the number of dances you compete in, you may only need to be at the competition for 3 hours – warm up time, compete, and awards! Multiple awards ceremonies are conducted each day of competition.
What is required of my child on the team?: To be on the competitive team we ask for commitment to each and every class you take. You are a part of a team and it is imperative to be in classes so you are learning with your team.
